Scenic Highlights from Marriott
Enjoy the Highlights of the eastern Dhofar Mountains:
The tour begins with a visit to the small fishing port in Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar.
From here you pass through typical Jabali villages and scenic landscapes through the mountain range of Jebel Samhan to a stunning plateau at a hight of almost 1300m. This location is also known as the "Grand Canyon" of the Dhofar Mountains.
Make a stop at one of the world's largest Sink Holes (211m deep and 150m in diameter), also known as Tawi Attair, which can be translated with "Well of Birds". Often you can see the birds in this place throughout the year.
You continue to the "evergreen Wadi Darbat", where you can take a relaxing stroll along the wadi bed, which is surrounded by camel, goat and cattle herds. In the Khareef season (monsoon season), could an almost 100m high natural waterfall could also be witnessed.
On the way back you will have a short photo stop in Mirbat at the Mausoleum of Bin Ali, a classic example of medieval architecture, and the narrow streets of the old town center, with old Omani mud houses, before you reach the hotel again.
